A OPACC, enquanto membro ativo da PAFA – Federação Pan-Africana de Contabilistas, vem por esta via, partilhar com V/ Exas., as últimas novidades e atualizações da Federação e outras organizações, nomeadamente a IFAC.
A IFAC está a preparar o novo Coletivo de Jovens Líderes e solicita às Organizações Profissionais da Contabilidade a encorajarem encorajem estudantes de contabilidade e jovens profissionais talentosos a candidatarem-se. O encontro assinala a primeira edição africana independente, unindo o talento local/regional com conhecimentos globais.

Matters Requiring Action
New IFAC Young Leaders Collective: Call for Applications
Action: We are asking PAOs to encourage talented accounting students and young professionals to apply. Please provide individuals you believe are excellent candidates with a letter of recommendation for them to include in their application. Young professionals and students in countries where the PAO is not yet an IFAC member can also become a part of this collective with a letter of support from PAFA. To request a letter of support, the individuals PAOs should submit a brief overview of why the candidate is suitable as well as a CV. If this is the case, please contact PAFA for more information.
IFAC is establishing its Young Leaders Collective to provide our profession with the opportunity to learn from the perspectives of early career professional accountants, as well as students and future or aspiring accountants. Being part of the Collective will provide younger professionals and students with the opportunity to learn more about the challenges and opportunities facing our profession, while sharing their insights as our profession’s future leaders. See attached document for more information. Closing date is 31 May 2024.

The African Accounting and Finance Association (AAFA), in collaboration with the Pan-African Federation of Accountants (PAFA), is pleased to announce the 2024-2025 edition of the African for Accounting and Finance Research Initiative (ACAFRI) funding call. We invite research proposals on the broad theme of sustainability accounting, reporting or assurance. The deadline for application is Friday 31 May 2024, emailed to info@aafassociation.com and copied to yinka.moses@vuw.ac.nz. Details about the call and the application form are enclosed.

26 – 28 June 2024: Save the Date, PAFA Annual Meeting (AGM) 2024. The 14th PAFA Annual General Meeting will be held on 27 June 2024 in Belle Mare, Mauritius. The AGM will be preceded by the Professional Accountancy Organisation (PAO) Leadership Forum on 26 June 2024 and followed by Technical Forum on 28 June 2024. More information will be shared in due course.

26-28 September 2024: The 6th West African Economic and Monetary Union Congress – ONECCA Togo. Registration is now open for the 6th congress for professional accountants from the West African Economic and Monetary Union. Equipping Accountants for Sustainability Reporting: IFAC Proposes Enhancements to International Education Standards. The International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) has unveiled proposed changes to the International Education Standards (IESs) that embed sustainability—from analysis to reporting to assurance—across aspiring professional accountants’ training.
IFAC Identifies Key Areas Accountants Need to Update their Knowledge & Skills to Prepare for Increasing Sustainability Demands. The International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) has released a new publication setting out four key areas where accountants need to update their knowledge to meet the growing demand for high-quality sustainability-related information. Equipping Professional Accountants for Sustainability: What’s New and What Hasn’t Changed speaks to the vital role accountants play in producing reliable sustainability-related data, reporting and assurance, as well as the importance of education and training in ensuring professional accountants are able to meet society’s needs.
IAASB Announces New Strategy and Work Plan to Advance Global Audit and Assurance Standards. The International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB) published its approved strategy and work plan aimed at enhancing consistency and quality of audit and assurance standards worldwide. Elevating Trust in Audit and Assurance: IAASB’s Strategy and Work Plan for 2024-2027 reflects the crucial role of audit and assurance in fostering trust in the world’s economies.
IESBA Launches First Global Ethics Standards on Tax Planning. The International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants (“IESBA”) has announced the launch of the first comprehensive suite of global standards on ethical considerations in tax planning and related services, incorporated in the IESBA Code of Ethics.

13 May 2024: IESAB First Global Ethics Standards on Tax Planning. The IESBA will hold two interactive global webinars in the coming weeks to present the first global ethics standards on tax planning, released earlier this month. Click here to register.
16 May 2024: The Good Governance Academy – 11th Colloquium “Equivalence between Sustainability Reporting Standards”. This 11th Colloquium brings together global thought leaders to discuss the potential for the application of “equivalence”, as has been applied in financial reporting, to sustainability reporting, with the current tentative speakers of Veronica Poole (Vice Chair of Deloitte UK and Global IFRS), Josephine Jackson (Vice-Chair of the IAASB), Eelco van der Enden (CEO of GRI), and Emmanuel Faber (Chair of the ISSB). 26 June 2024: ASB/AAFA/SAAA Online Seminar: New Accounting Standard – IFRS 18 Presentation and Disclosure in Financial Statements. The International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) in conjunction with the African Accounting and Finance Association (AAFA) and the South African Accounting Association (SAAA) will hold an education workshop on 26 June 2024 at 13.00-15.00 (CAT). The seminar is to inform academics on the new requirements in IFRS 18 coming into effect on 1 January 2027 and to stimulate academic research that will be useful for the post-implementation review of IFRS 18.The focus is thus academic members PAOs.
